Apply to CSA 1

The deadline is 11:59 pm Monday, April 20, and we will try to return decisions within 2 weeks. To apply, you must be a student living in or near the Los Angeles area. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept international students. We recommend you fill this application out thoughtfully, preparing your responses in a separate editor and pasting them into the boxes below. If you are accepted, you will be asked to deposit with us a tuition fee of $999 (check payable to Community Science Academy, and mailed to 1727 N Madison Ave, Pasadena, CA 91104). There are need-based scholarships available; all admissions decisions are need-blind.

Be specific in your scientific proposal. Please make sure your proposal includes specific details about questions, hypotheses, materials, procedures, and analyses. If you’re using a plant, what type of plant is it? If you’re doing an experiment, what variable are you changing, and what are you holding fixed? What are your control experiments? If you’re making an measurement, how will you quantify it? If you’re collecting data, how will you analyze it?

Your proposal must include experiments. Building a device without an experiment is not a scientific proposal. Running a marketing campaign is not a scientific proposal. Donating the money to a worthy cause is not a scientific proposal.

Keep in mind other proposals we are likely to receive. For COVID-19, we are likely to receive many proposals to compare the efficacy of different hand sanitizers. Please try to distinguish yourself.
